iPad Novel Writing Project Begins!

Apologies for the dearth of iPad posts. If you're super-keen on iPad and e-publishing info, please do follow my iPadGirl Twitter feed; where I post on a daily basis.

Several reasons for my sporadic schedule:

1. I just upgraded to from a Wifi-only iPad to a 3G iPad (WOOHOO!).

2. I recently attended the SCBWI Conference in Los Angeles (SCBWI = Society For Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) and exciting things happened.

So while I'm working on picture book stuff for Simon & Schuster and other publishers, I'm also going to be working on a middle grade novel illustrated with comics (tentatively) called KILLER ZOMBIE SQUIRRELS FROM OUTER SPACE.

To help keep this new story psychologically separate from my other projects and also as an experiment, I'm going to try writing it entirely on my iPad, from planning through revisions.  I'm starting with Black Mana Studio's Manuscript app for the iPad but will also be using other apps along the way for brainstorming, layout, initial drawing sketches, etc.

I'll probably end up importing into the Pages app so I can convert it into MS-Word format for my critique group and ultimately for sending to my agent.

I'll be blogging about my progress, including recommendations about what software I like and don't like. I'll be writing from the viewpoint of a writer and illustrator, as well as someone who loves all things iPad. Though I -am- a huge iPad fan, I will be as honest and upfront as I can about good and bad experiences.

VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROJECT! More soon. :-)

I'm quite interested to see how you progress with this, I'm currently outlining the plot for a novel (SF, not childrens or illustrated) and would be very keen to hear how you get on with apps for the iPad, in particular anything thats useful for plot planning/brainstorming, it'll save me a fortune in notebooks and pencils! - I've seen references to iThoughtsHD in an other article, I'll give that a go too. Good luck.
