Apple's Pages app

PAGES

Version 1.1, Price: US $9.99

Size: 24 MB

Creator: Apple Inc.

(Also see my list of other iPad Apps For Writers)

I haven't been posting a lot of reviews of notetaking apps recently because I've been using Pages quite a bit. Really nice interface, and I'm using it for some of my writing and critiquing projects. Lots of formatting options, and I like being able to import and export Word docs.

On my wish list:

Hierarchical folder storage - Keeping more than half a dozen documents is impractical because there's no easy way to access them except by flipping through them one at a time.

Easier import/export needed - Right now, you can only export your document by e-mail, iWork.com and iTunes. I'm surprised Apple hasn't kept up with other word processing apps and enabled easier file sharing options.

TextExpander integration - I've grown to be a huge fan of TextExpander-enabled apps because of all the time and typing it can save. This would especially be useful on the iPad when users are using the built-in software keyboard.

Hi Debbie: Love your subsite for the IPad. I'm a new owner of a 3G Wifi iPad and yes, I love using it and am trying to see how I can use this for writing and creative work (digital scrapbooking maybe?). For Pages, which I have downloaded, I find the lack of a password protection inhibiting. My kids and husband access the iPad and it'd be nice to be able to password protect my work in progress!
