Before you fill out the contact mail form to the left, please read the following...
Mail I always appreciate:
Mail from people interested in hiring me for writing- or illustration-related work.
If my site has helped you in any way, please do let me know.
If you notice any typos or other problems with the site, please let me know.
If you have a suggestion on how to make my site more useful to writers, please let me know.
If you know of a site or resource that helps writers that doesn't require a fee, please let me know.
Mail I'm not crazy about:
If you're planning on asking me to critique your manuscript, publishing advice or for advice on where to send your manuscript, please be aware that I can't always answer every e-mail personally. I used to try, but found that I was spending more and more time helping other writers and less time on my own writing.
Often I'd end up doing research work (e.g. looking up info online, for instance) that the writer could have done himself or herself, and they'd end up taking my info and taking off without a word of thanks for my time or effort. Apologies for coming across as curmudgeonly here, but I've been burned this way quite a few times.
My advice for beginning writers who aren't sure how to get started: join one of the many online writing communities who welcome new writers. I'll update this text to list some of them soon. Join a local writers' group. If there isn't one in your area, start one.
Mail I hate:
Being put on a promotional mailing list without being asked first.
Mail I will decline:
if you're writing to ask if you can place an advertisement on my site, please don't bother. At this time, I'm not accepting any advertising and have no plans to do so in the near future.
And THANK YOU so much for reading to the end of this note!
